If you are local to Dianne on the Isle of Man impresisons are taken personally unless a kit form is easier for you!  If you live anywhere else a little kit with the relevant instructions will be sent to you to simply take impressions and send back to us to create your keepsake

How To Take Impressions - Kits By Post

 

Full details will be included in your kit.  We allow additional material just incase a mistake is made - We ask that everything that is sent to you to be retuned this helps to keep our costs down!

 

Hand & Feet Impressions & Kisses

 

Should you already have your own impressions that have already been taken these can easily be scanned to your computer and then emailed to us.  Please don’t make any adjustments as we will use our expertise to ensure the best results possible.

 

*If you are unable to have the use of a scanner - you can either go to your local photo copying / staples shop etc.......bring them to your appointment for us to scan or if you are ordering via mail you can post them to us to return with your jewellery - if you are mailing them we would advise sending them via secure post method as we are not responsible for any loss of damage to items mailed.

 

If you would like impressions taking an inkless wipe complete with magic paper will be in your kit to take the impressions.  These products were developed in the US and are used in maternity hospitals.

 

How to use them:

 

Firstly ensure the area where you are taking impressions are clean and dry.

 

Simply remove the inkless wipe that is actually used dry straight from it’s packaging and thoroughly wipe over the hand / foot, making sure the entire area is covered / has been wiped. As it is inkless and colourless no residue will be left on the person you are applying this to! 

 

With your Kisses simply gently wipe over the lips in a relaxed position not a pout! and kiss the paper provided the more you kiss the paper the more choices we have - if you have a fav put a little star near or circle around it! 

 

Hands & Feet - Place the hand or foot directly on to the magic paper pressing firmly to allow good contact for the best detail without smudging and remove

 

Within about a minute the impression will appear in black.

 

If you have accidentally smudged or the baby / child moved and you do not like the impressions please simply repeat the process again using the same wipe and in a different section of the magic paper. You can always simply put a line or cross through any mistakes and we know not to use these, but will certainly use our judgement to ensure you get the best keepsake from the prints provided.

 

 

Fingerprint Impressions

 

Enclosed in your pack you will find equal amounts of skin safe impression putty.

 

Firstly ensure the hands are taking impressions are clean and dry on both you and the person who's fingerprints are being taken.  

 

Scoop out the two colours of putty.  

 

Mix them thoroughly together between your fingertips by folding, squishing and rolling into a ball -  for about 30 seconds you will feel the putty getting a little firmer and it will all be the same colour.  

 

Immediately after mixing roll into a ball, place on the instruction card - Your impression is ready to be taken. The putty should still be squishy and soft - if it is getting too firm you may not be able to take the impressions.

 

Depending on how big you would like your impression you may like to use a little finger or index finger thumbs are not normally used for child impressions

 

Simply place a finger and gently press into the putty making sure not to push all the way to the bottom of the ball and remove straight away. If you then look at the print and check it's a nice shape and that the finger hasn't stuck to the impression material and pulled it - if the print was done before the impression putty was ready and it was too soft or if you don't like the shape or it has fluff  - Simply re roll quickly into a ball as above and start again as remember you only have a limited time before it is unusable!  You have about a minute to a minute and a half before the putty starts to set from when you start mixing.

 

Once you are happy with your impression put to the side and the putty will become hard and set in around 15 minutes.  Place impressions into the plastic cases.  Also please return everything that was sent for you to take the impressions - Please do not write on the special plastic instruction card as this is reused to keep our costs competitive.

 

Some babies do not have defined prints and will be more of a little dimple so please take this in to account  Please see our website FAQ’s for more details.

 

If in doubt prior to ordering your kit have a look at your child’s impressions, try pressing gently fingerprints in to something you have at home like plasticine or play-doh - It is your own choice as some like to capture impressions only a few days old a cute tiny dimple impression! Where as some like to wait until a full print of swirls and whirls can be seen - ofwhich this could be over the age of 2 but we leave this as your choice - some companies will not take prints of young babies/toddlers and recommend you go for the hand or footprint jewellery but we leave this totally up to you - general rule the older the child the more definition.

 

Pet Paw Impressions

Artwork / Doodles

 

Please scan and then email a PDF file or JPEG file of your art work, doodles or hand writing that you would like created in to a piece of pure silver jewellery.  We will then work our magic to capture your designs.  

 

On some pieces of children’s art work you may like to capture a section we can work with you to capture the best results

 

The best results are simple line drawing - ideally black and white if you are making something specific for this piece of jewellery.......we are happy to look at options with you and work out what will look best if you are looking at a piece that was maybe done years ago or simply a favourite school piece!

 

Not all drawings will be suitable and we will advise accordingly to give you the best keepsake possible
